Bedroom restored!

The entire household is thrilled that the mess of re-decorating the bedroom has finally ended. It’s been nearly two weeks. One would think that such a small space would not have taken so long to complete, but the assistant and carpenter (yes, Happy, you know who you are) was not on-site as often as we hoped, and things just got put off. We did a little, then didn’t do anything, did some more, didn’t do anything, and so on.

Part of the issue, one that plagues any such project as this, is the decision-making process that must be done before we could proceed. Nobody seemed to want to be the one who made the choices about how to put the paper up, whether to do a chair or a picture rail, etc. Then new supplies had to be purchased, the decision of how to install the papers (tape or glue) came up again, and of course the carpentry and painting had to be done as well. It was, I do believe, a process nearly as large as one might be in a regular house.

The other thing I learned about projects is that not everyone is good at performing them or wants to even try. The whole thing really fell to me, HittyG, and to Hitty Rae. Without us, nothing would have progressed. Everyone else was totally engrossed in decorating of another nature – that of Halloween. So while all that was going on, Hitty Rae and I got down to serious business.

As previously mentioned, this took days (weeks), but it’s finally finished, and today was the unveiling. The official carpenter (yes, Happy, that’s you again) even got out the stain for the closet pole and built the shelf in the closet that she’s been promising us for the past year (really, it’s actually been a full year). We are thrilled to be able to finally stow the hats away where they belong.

Here you can see the newly stained rod and the closet shelf, already in use. Note my Mickey Mouse ears at the center front? I got those when we went to Disney World in January.

Here is a picture of the other side of the bedroom and a picture of the full room.

You can see that the Halloween elves of the house have even been up here, practically before the stain and paint were dry, and definitely before the odor had dissipated

As I said, while we were working hard, the house elves were afoot, decorating for Halloween. Here you can see our resident witch (not a derogatory term but one she prefers), Tilia, who had just hung the wonderfully nasty black and purple spider over the world’s largest pumpkin on which our Hitty skeleton is perched, looking quite dapper I think.

Oooh - scary stuff.

Finally, we can all relax downstairs and begin to get into the spirit of Halloween – can it be nearly October? Well, we started celebrating a little early this year, but oh what fun it’s been so far, and there’s more to come. We are participating in a Halloween Stocking Swap through our HittyGirls online group. It’s our first swap, and we are so excited. Because she worked so hard, everyone voted for Hitty Rae to get to wear our only mask and hold the stocking we put together in this picture.

While Hitty Rae may get to wear the mask and hold the stocking, I got to wear the really cool hat!

There are still pictures to be hung and various things set to rights, and there are other rooms that need work, but we can live with them the way they are for a while. Now that the big effort is done, we can turn our efforts toward coercing Happy into making us all Halloween masks and hats. I’m sure we can wear her down if we work hard enough. If asking nicely doesn’t work, maybe we can get Tilia to put the teensiest little spell on her. Something temporary, of course.

    Is that a…panda bear?…on Hitty Rae’s lap??

I just learned about this blog’s existence. What a treat! I will visit often, as I dearly miss getting to play with all of you. You do have Happy wrapped around your little pinkies…keep up the good work! (perhaps Hitty Rose could come visit for Halloween? She’s having great fun with the Madelines but does miss her Hitty family)
