The lucky winners of an all-expense paid Thankgiving trip to Nags Head, NC

Drum roll please.

And the winners are ...

And the winners are ...

The class was hushed as the names were drawn and read last night. The first lucky winner of the all-expense paid trip is….

Eva!

Eva would like to thank everyone - gracias!

The second name from the plastic container of names is….

Fiona was a lady, as always, and simply conveyed in her sweet little voice how thankful she was to be included.

Of course, I will be going along too. We are sad to leave the others behind, but there simply isn’t room for everyone in the van. We will be pretty stuffed – just like our turkey will be (ha ha) – with four adults, all the food, and all of their belongings. I did, as main travel Hitty, insist that our new duck accompany us on the trip. She didn’t think the part about stuffed turkey was so funny.

L'Orange is grateful not to be left at home since she claims the Chef was eyeing her mysteriously.

Eva hails from Argentina. She speaks with a slight accent, but she’s well integrated into the household, and was very excited when she learned that her name was one that was drawn from the plastic container. She’s never been anywhere except when she traveled to Virginia from Buenos Aires, Argentina back in July. Since she’s not seen much of the U.S. or met the rest of her person’s family, this is a very wonderful opportunity for her.

Fiona, carved by the amazing Bill Fifer from Mountain Ash lays claim to being the only Hitty in the house with such lucky underpinnings, just like our ancestor. Fiona is very sweet and quite polite. She said thank you for choosing her, and it was modestly said, as is typical of little Fi. I am secretly pleased that she will be coming with us so that I can become better acquainted with her. She’s a little shy as a rule, possibly because she was displaced from her first home. We are her second family. She hasn’t told us why she had to leave there, but perhaps she will open up a bit to me on our trip.

Of course Fi ran straight to the closet when she heard that she would be going. Despite her quiet and calm demeanor, she likes to dress well. Guess everyone has some vanity.

Where are the smaller sizes? Why is there nothing here to fit me?

She was quite disappointed to find nothing at all in her size, but I reminded her that the closet things all fit me and that the petite clothing is kept elsewhere. She wanted to go through that, too, but our person reminded us that, at the beach, everyone would be casual and we wouldn’t need much in the way of extras. Fi seemed content with that, but I suspect she’ll be rooting through the stack of smaller dresses when our backs are turned.

So here we are, the two lucky winners of the drawing (thanks, Amy) and me (in the middle), with L’Orange. We leave on Sunday, and there is still much to do before we go. It’s going to be a grand and wonderous adventure.
