January 3

Tomorrow is the birthday of our Person’s son who lives in Washington State. Happy Birthday, Mr. Microsoft. We love you.

Our person seems stalled. Instead of finishing the dress she began for me (those important first two cuts into the huge stash of fabric), she paused to lengthen a darling pair of pants for smallest granddaughter. They are a delightful reversible pair in green and pink polkadots and fit the child, but only if she stands. They are a smidge too short when she sits (that’s the advantage we Hittys have – we never out grow our clothing). They go with a striped shirt, so of course there’s no way to match up stripes and our person didn’t try. She bought another print – pink and green flowers this time. What moanings we heard, though, as she did what seemed a simple task. At last, they are finished, and she said (we heard her) that she doesn’t care to do this ever again. We think she doesn’t mean it.

Our Person and her namesake, Happy Hitty, imagine how cute these will be when worn on either side

Of course lengthening the pants required a special trip to the fabric store to ensure a good color match. We heard our Person musing about whether cutting into this fabric counts as one of her hundred cuts, despite the fact that it has only just entered the house. But since there is enough remaining fabric to possibly make something for one of us, it may eventually count. We know she’s not about to get rid of any fabric. Not our Person.

And she imagines how she will look, wearing something new

Of course all I can think about is when will I get a dress out of those first two cuts and stop having to appear in pictures wearing my unmentionables!!

I think I'm closer than I was - at least she covered up my undies this time.

The pants are too cute! And I loved hearing about the 100 cuts. Your obsession with fabrics has yielded a great deal of interesting and beautiful things over the years, from bears to dresses to dolls… I look forward to hearing more through the Hitty’s (Hitties’ ??) conversations. And yes, Happy Birthday Mr. Microsoft. My Internet is finally working stably, so I should write him too.

    Hitty Rose sends her love.

Mr Microsoft is pleased to tell all the Hitty’s that he had a wonderful snowy birthday and was very impressed to have made it into their journal. A great appreciation goes out for all the kind words from his smaller extended family. Also, the cake turned out really good.
